11 Aug Wilton v AVCC

A strong squad was assembled for this match which had a little edge to it stemming from a minor altercation from earlier in the season.

Weather was as predicted sunshine and showers with an hours delay for tea. AVCC chased down Wilton's 136 for 5 from 30 overs, in 26 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. It was a fairly comfortable victory. Jon Vickery 3-5-1 (not seen for a couple of years and welcomed back) opened the bowling with Jack Campbell 3-2-2 and they both kept it very tight. All three wickets caught by Bruce Carter who had a great afternoon behind the stumps. Tim Gent had an excellent spell of leg spin 5-20-1 and Dave Battinson 5-12-0 mixed medium pace with a variety of spin also kept the pressure. Jon Wolverson 3-26-1 managed to bowl the skipper, Ash Elliott for 20. George Lishman 4-21-0 and Jamie Corden 3-24-0 managed the final overs. The fielding was very good throughout and they looked to be 40-50 runs short. Because of the rain, we switched to playing on Wilcot's astro. We ticked along at the required rate of 4.5 an over for the first 20 - Jon W 24 & Jack C 21 opened; Greg Caswell 11 looked comfortable. Jon V 31 n.o. & Jamie C 23 accelerated in the final overs to easily reach the target. Tea was excellent, particularly the tuna & mayo sandwiches (most people agreed).
