AVCC v Keevil

A cloudy afternoon with a keen breeze but dry for AVCC's first officially competitive game of the 2015 season.

The pitch had had plenty of preparation but had not yet been tested - as it turned out it played with even bounce throughout.

AVCC lost the toss and Keevil batted first, with AVCC then wanting to give all its fielders a turn at bowling. Matt Haslett and Jamie Corden opened with pace at either end, and within a few overs Peter Williams picked up a square leg catch off Matt's bowling, evidently bemused that in basically stopping the ball going to the boundary, it had actually stuck in his right! It doesn't matter how they are got I guess...

A partnership then developed leading to the Keevil no3 batsman producing a century, eventually finishing Not Out 114, although not before the other opener was trapped LBW by Ish Shafiq for 30. That was the only other wicket, and a 50 from Keevil's no4 batsman saw them get a total of 210 off 35 overs.

8 players had a bowl, Jamie finishing with the meanest analysis of 0-14 off 5 overs. Of note also was a very respectable extras of only 10. AVCC commenced the chase confidently with a challenging run rate, the 100 up exactly halfway through the reply, but wickets also fell with regularity, although Simon Borthwick's 51 was a great effort and Graham Newland 22 and Simon Campbell 27 also contributed.

In the end AVCC were all out 46 runs short and the chase rate had slowed. Keevil were a good side though and we march onwards to Marden next Sunday with lots of positives.
