AVCC v Mildenhall

A close, low scoring game was won by Mildenhall's unbreakable eight wicket partnership.

After a dull morning and a short pre-match shower, Valley won the toss and decided to bat, the captain opening with Tom Law. Mildenhall’s bowling was tight and we scored at a steady pace on what was a true but fairly gentle wicket.

Dudley Perrin top-scored with a handy 36, Rob Hedderwick and Greg Caswell also contributing with 28 and 22 respectively. We were all out for 141 having not quite exhausted our 35 overs, most of the wickets taken were bowled indicating the opposition’s straight bowling.

Mildenhall started quickly but Rory and Tim Law, followed by Rob Hedderwick and Greg Caswell, all bowling 7 straight overs each, got amongst the wickets regularly. Rob and Greg each took a spectacular near-boundary catch, and things were looking very good at one point with Mildenhall 87-7.

However the 8th wicket stand was solid and with overs to play with they got to the target score and hence won by 3 wickets. Almost immediately after this the heavens opened so a well timed finish considering but not the result we wanted of course. Nevertheless many thanks to everyone for taking part again and lots of good stuff to take from the game.
