AVCC v Erlestoke

AVCC made it 3 wins out of 3 last night against Erlestoke, if you count the game at the chilly end of September last year.

AVCC made a very respectable 144 for 8 off their 20 overs, and Erlestoke fell 4 runs short, 140 for 7.  This makes Erlestoke our "bunnies", if we were Australian and "sledged" opposition like that  (not smiling now, are they, the Aussies!).

AVCC were inserted surprisingly by the opposition, which has lucky as a got a little dark towards the end of the game and started well.  Simon Borthwick (Rushall) play a good innings of 47 not out, hitting particularly strongly straight.  Graham Chandler (new from Enford, moonlights for Collingbourne at present) opened with him and made 40.  83 for the first wicket. However, despite a classy cameo from Dudley Perrin (Upavon) and a few good smites from Jon Wolverson (soon to be of Enford), the innings tailed off a bit.  The skipper managed to run Graham (the finisher) Newland out in an unseemly mix up and was justifiably sledged by some of the opposition who had witnessed that sort of thing before.

Erlestoke went off strongly too, taking 60 off the first 6.  Graham Newland was surprisingly expensive 31 off 3 and Jon Wolverson bowled well, but was spanked a bit 20 off 3 with 1 wicket.  The innings was turned round by Rob Hedderwick (Upavon) - surprise failure with the bat after his 129 last Sunday - 4-1-20 and Graham Chandler 4-2-23.  They exerted control and Dominic Pugh-Cook enhance his reputation as a potential destroyer of batsman hearts with 2-2-17.  Erlestoke need 14 off the last, but fell short.

Needless to say, there was a deal of issues to sort out in the Ship afterwards, who provided quality lager, chips, sausages and sandwiches to top the night off.  Thanks go to Rory Plank who rushed back from work at half time to patrol the boundary without getting bat.  Alex Brown (Chisenbury) kept well behind the stumps, given he hadn't played for a bit.
